Grow Collective - Year 2, Semester 1
Carnegie Mellon University (Profs. Joshua Bard, Brian Peters)
The final stage of the "Grow Collective" unit involves designing a proposal for a center for urban agriculture. The site is located at the Sankofa community gardens in the Homewood neighborhood of Pittsburgh, U.S.A. Homewood is considered a "food desert", in which residents have to travel to adjacent neighborhoods to purchase groceries and other produce. This proposition will not only eliminate the "food desert" status, but will also be a hub for the adjacent communities to visit and learn about agriculture, ecology and architecture.
